It’s a Post Traumatic deformity of the elbow developed due to mal united supracondylar fracture of the Humerus bone. it is also known as Gun Stock deformity as the upper limb looks like the stock of the gun.
Supracondylar fracture of the Humerus is the commonest fracture in the pediatric age group.
There are 2 types of supracondylar fracture.
Extension type are further classified into 3 types
Only Type 1 and certain Type 2 fractures can be managed without surgery by Plaster
All type 3 and most of the type 2 fractures require accurate reduction and K wire fixation.
Failure to reduce the fracture or redisplacement after reduction may lead to mal union and ultimately the deformity at the elbow .
